There are a number of ways to 'tackle' the theory requirements of getting your helicopter license, and different options suit different people.

The most successful and least time consuming is to attend a full time course (approx. 10 weeks). This is a great environment, being surrounded by people with the same goals and often having the same difficulties can make the course a little 'easier'. Unfortunately not everyone can afford the time away from work and the course fees involved.

The next option would be night classes. These courses normally run 2-3 times a week for a couple of hours. An excellent option when working during the day is still a priority.

Option 3 is home study using text books obtained via an aviation shop. People don't often work well at home so this makes it a difficult option, especially as you don't have someone readily available to answer questions.

Still at home but a little easier is the, Home Study Kit supplied by Advanced Flight Theory. This is a correspondence style course and is quite popular with a number of students.

The Helicopter Group contracts instructors for both full time and part time theory study courses. Some study courses are conducted in house and also an external trainer - Lionel Taylor (based at Moorabbin). Lionel has been teaching classes for 20 years, so he knows his theory.
