The Australian aviation industry like any other industry is generally ‘cyclic’, having high points and low points. It relies on a lot of other industries including forestry, mining, farming, tourism which of course also suffer highs and lows.

At a recent Helicopter Association Industry conference speakers indicated a looming pilot shortage.

…Organisations involved in pilot and aircraft mechanic training argue that not only is the pool of new candidates shrinking but the typical new comers have far different attitudes than their predecessors. This, the training organisations believe, calls for the industry not only to encourage more people to consider flight training but to understand they need to face a growing challenge in gaining and holding a pilots licence.
